أَبى الحُبُّ إِلّا وَقفَةً بِالمَعاهِدِ
يَجودُ عَلَيها بِالدُموعِ الجَواهِدِ
Love refused anything but a halt at the covenants
Where it sheds copious tears like a mourner
فَلا تُسمِ في دُنياكَ داراً بِجَنَّةٍ
بِآيَةِ أَنَّ المَرءَ لَيسَ بِخالِدِ
So name no abode in your life everlasting,
For the omen says man is no everlasting resident.
دِيارَ الَّتي كانَت وَكُنتُ وَكُنتُمُ
فَيا وَحشَتي مِن مَورِدي وَمَوارِدي
The abodes that were, and I was, and you were,
So oh my desolation from my watering-place and watering-places!
