1. هُوَ الصَبرُ لَكِن لا أَقولُ جَميلُ

    أَصَبرٌ عَلى الهِندِيِّ وَهوَ قَتيلُ

  2. فَهَل مِن طَبيبٍ إِن يَكُن فهوَ آلِمٌ

    وَقَلبُ المُعَنّى عِلَّةٌ وَعَليلُ

  5. وَإِنّي لِما تُجني النَخيلُ لَمُطعِمٌ

    وَلَكِن بِمَن يَجني النَخيلَ بِخَيلُ

    And I, when palms bear fruit, am feeding

    But who will reap the palms with horses

  6. فَدَيتُكَ ظِلّاً لَو تَذوبُ وَراءَنا

    وَما لِيَ في الأَطرافِ مِنهُ مَقيلُ

    I ransom you, a shadow, if it melts behind us

    And I have no shelter from it in the horizons

  7. وَقَد مُدِّدَت أَطرافُهُ شَغَفاً بِها

    فَكانَ عَلى نَارٍ فَقُلتُ يَسيلُ

    Its edges stretched in passion for them

  8. حَمى اللَهُ ظِلّاً وَالظِلالُ قَصيرَةٌ

    يَفيضُ عَلى وَجهِ الثَرى وَيَطولُ

  9. وَكَيفَ لِعَينِ الشَمسِ لَو أَنَّ جَفنَها

    بِإِثمِدِ ما مَدَّ الظِلالُ كَحيلُ
