إِنَّ البَنانَ الخَمسَ أَكافاءٌ مَعاً

وَالحَلى دونَ جَميعِها لِلخِنصَرِ

The five fingers are allies together,

Yet the ring is for the little finger.

وَإِذا الفَتى فَقَدَ الشَبابَ نَشا لَهُ

حُبُّ البَنينَ وَلا كَحُبِّ الأَصَغَرِ

When a youth loses his vigor,

His love for the children arises, not like for the youngest.

وَاِخصُص بِرَسمِ تَحِيَّتي مَن لَم أَبُح

لَكَ باسِمِهِ وَلَعَلَّهُ لَم يُذكَرِ

Convey my regards in a special way to one whose name

I didn’t mention to you, and maybe he wasn’t mentioned.

مِمَّن أَوَدُّ لَها الرَدى لا عَن قِلى

وَتَوَدُّ أَبقى بِقاءَ الأدهرِ

Of those whom I wish safety for them, not out of paucity,

And they wish I remain for eternity.
