أَساكِنَ أَكنافِ المُقَطَّمِ دَعوَةً

تَداعَت بِها الأَلفاظُ وَهيَ دُموعُ

I dwell in the corners of the shattered abode

Words summoned by it while they are tears

يَقولونَ دِرياقُ الهَوى الدَمعُ إِن جَرى

فَذا الدَمعُ يَجري وَاللَسيعُ لَسيعُ

They say tears are the elixir of passion, if shed

So this tear flows while the smooth cheek is smooth

أَبى الحُزنُ لي مِن أَن أُماكِسَ في الهَوى

فَحُزنُكَ يَشري وَالدُموعُ تَبيعُ

Sorrow refused me to indulge in passion

So your sorrow flows while tears are sold
