فَسَرَحتُ فيهِ سَوامَ طَرفِيَ رائِعاً
ما بَينَ أَزهارٍ وَأَرضِ عِهادِ
I set my eyes roaming in it, exulting,
Amongst flowers and pastoral lands,
أَفدي بِأَبيَضِ ناظِرَيَّ بَياضَهُ
وَسَوادَ أَحرُفِهِ بِنورِ سَوادي
I would ransom their whiteness with my eyes' whiteness
And their blackness with my blackness' light.
