1. قُم فَاِسقِني مِمّا تُرَوِّقْ

    كَأساً على الظَلماءِ تُشرِقْ

    Arise and pour me some of your fine wine

    A cup that illuminates the darkness

  2. أَنفِق مِنَ الذَهَبِ الَّذي

    أوتيتَهُ إِن كُنتَ مُنفِق

    Spend from the gold you were given

    If you are one who spends

  3. أَكُؤوسُنا إِلّا جَوا

    ري ما وَساقينا يُغَرِّق

    Our cups are nothing but the driving rain

    Watering us and overflowing

  4. وَاِشمَت بِذا الهَمِّ المُغَر

    ربِ خيفَةَ القَدَحِ المُشَرِّق

    Inhale the intoxicating scent

    Of the shining chalice’s froth

  5. وَاِسرِق بِنا الأَيّامَ فَال

    أَيامُ لِلأَعمارِ تَسرِق

    Steal away with us these days

    For days steal away the years

  6. عرسُ المَسَرَّةِ لَيسَ في

    هِ سِوى المُدامَةِ مِن مُخَلِّق

    A wedding feast is naught

    But joy making merry

  7. أَحرِق بِها هَمّي فَإِن

    نَكَ مُحرِقٌ ما كانَ مُحرِق

    Burn my worries with it

    For you who burn what burns

  8. بُقياً عَلى نارِ الكُئو

    سِ وَكُفَّ عَن نارِ المُحَلِّق

    Staying by the fire of cups

    Cease the fire of soaring

  9. وَاِسكُت فَإِنَّ العودَ يَن

    طِقُ وَهوَ أَعذَبُ مِنكَ مَنطِق

    Hush, for the lute speaks

    More sweetly than your speech

  10. مُتَبَجبِجٌ بِالمَسِّ أَو

    مُستَأذَنٌ بِالنَقرِ مُرهق

    Thrumming at the touch

    Or knocking for leave, weary

  11. أَتُراهُ عوداً يابِساً

    أَنَّى وَبِالإِطرابِ يورِق

    See it a withered wood?

    Nay, with trembling it leafs anew

  12. وَمُمَزِّقٍ عَنّا القَمي

    صَ فَما اِسمُهُ إِلّا المُمَزِّق

    Shredding veils from us

    Its name is none but Shredder

  13. أَرَأَيتَ أَحسَنَ مِن حَدي

    ثِ العودِ حَيثُ اللَيلُ يطرق

    Have you seen aught fairer

    Than the lute’s song as night falls?

  14. وَكَأَنَّني بِيَدِ الدجى

    في جَيبِهِ طَرَباً تَشَقِّق

    As if in the gloaming’s hand

    Song bursts and cracks

  15. وَالنَجمُ مُشفٍ مُدنَفٌ

    مِن لَونِهِ الشَفَقيِّ مُشفِق

    The stars slope, bruised

    From their rosy hue, anxious

  16. وَالصُبحُ مِن وَجهِ الفُلا

    نِ كَما تَقولُ الشَمسُ تُشرِق

    And dawn on the horizon

    Says, as the sun says, I rise

  17. وَالشَمسُ مُؤمِنَةٌ بِمُع

    جِزِ نورِ طَلعَتِهِ تُصَدِّق

    The sun believes in the miracle

    Of her nascent light, true

  18. وَرَشاشُ بَحرِ النَقع يو

    مَ حُروبِهِ لِلشَمسِ يُغرِق

    The spray of the tumultuous sea

    In its battles drowns the sun

  19. وَإِذا المُحَدِّثُ قال عَن

    هُ فَكُلُّ مَن سَمِعَ المُصَدِّق

    When the speaker says of it

    All who hear believe him

  20. قُل ما تَشاءُ وَزِد وَبا

    لِغ إِنَّكَ الثَبتُ المُحَقِّق

    Say what you will, and more

    You are steadfast and true

  21. حوشيتَ إِنَّ سِواكَ يَل

    تَقِطُ الفَرائِدَ أَو يُلَفِّق

    Be generous, none but you

    Glean jewels or forge them

  22. عَلِّق عُقودَ الدُرِّ بِال

    أَقلامِ جاهِدَةً تُعَلِّق

    Hang necklaces of pearls

    On pens competing to hang them

  23. وَقَد اِستَجَرَّ مِنَ التِجا

    رِ الدُرَّ وَالشُعَراءُ تُنفِق

    And merchants gained jewels and poets spent

    Exhausting its abundant wealth, so closed

  24. فَاِستَنفَدوا مِنهُ حَوا

    صِلَ دُرِّهِ فهوَ المُغَلِّق

    As if each praising you

    Brays while you bleat with wealth

  25. وَكَأَنَّ مادِحَهُ يُغَر

    ردُ وَهوَ بِالأَموالِ يَنعِق

    The branch bears fruit, earth bears

    A plant, and the vein flows full

  26. الفَرعُ يُثمِرُ وَالثَرى

    أَثرى ثَرىً وَالعِرقُ مُعرِق

    O you who visit generosity

    Ever overflowing when you give

  27. يا عارِضَ الكَرَمِ الَّذي

    ما زالَ يُغرِق حينَ يُغدِق

    The clouds claim the dew

    Your right refutes anddispels

  28. لِلسُحبِ دَعوى في النَدى

    بَطَلَت بِحَقٍّ مِنكَ يُزهِق
