Ours is the red banner, its shadow fluttering,
When told, "Advance it, Haḍīn!" he advances,
Bearing it through the ranks until he brings it to the brink,
Where the doom of fates drips with death and blood.
You see him, when the day of hateful battle breaks,
Refusing all therein but honor and nobility,
Most resolute in patience when summoned to the fray,
When the voices of the armored champions rise in clamor.
For Akk, Lakhm, and Himyar stood their ground
Against Madhhij, until they made them inherit regret,
And Judham cried out: "O Madhhij, woe unto you!
May God repay with evil whichever of us was the more unjust!
Do you not fear God regarding your sacred ties,
And that which the Merciful has drawn near and honored?"
May God reward a people who fought in their encounter
Against the mighty ones with good—how virtuous and noble were they!
I speak of Rabia, for they are truly a folk of valor,
And of prowess when meeting a vast, multitudinous host.
We made Ibn Harb taste our spear-thrusts and our strikes,
With our blades, until he turned his back and recoiled,
And until Zabraqan bin Azlam called out,
Calling to Kala'a, al-Kurayb, and An'am,
And 'Amr, Sufyan, Jahm, and Malik,
And Hawshab, and the misguided Shuraih, and Azlam,
And Kurz bin Nabhan, and 'Amr bin Jahdar,
And Sabah al-Qayni—summoning them and Aslam too.
