When the Hour draws near—oh, what an Hour!
And the earth is shaken with its violent quaking,
The mountains moving with great speed,
Passing like clouds, you shall witness their state.
And the earth is rent asunder by a single blast,
There and then casting forth its heavy burdens.
And inevitably, an inquirer shall ask,
Among the people on that Day: "What ails it?"
It shall recount its tidings, for its Lord
—And your Lord, without doubt—has inspired it to do so.
And all shall issue forth to the Station of Judgment,
Which arrests the elders and the children alike.
The soul shall see what it has prepared brought forth,
Even if its weight be but a mere atom.
An Omnipotent King shall call it to account:
Either a judgment against it, or in its favor.
My sins are heavy, so what is my recourse
If I am to be their bearer at the Resurrection?
You shall see people drunk, though without wine,
For the eye beholds what has terrified it.
I forgot the Hereafter—so woe unto my soul,
And I granted the self its fleeting desires.
