يا طالِبَ الصَفوِ في الدُنيا بِلا كَدَرٍ

طَلبتَ مَعدومَةً فايأسَ مِنَ الظَفَرِ

O seeker of serenity in this world without turmoil

O seeker of serenity in this world without sorrow,

You sought the unattainable, so despair of attaining it

You seek the non-existent, so despair of such triumph.

وَاعلَم بِأَنكَ ما عَمَّرَتَ مُمتَحَنٌ

بِالخَيرِ وَالشَرِّ وَالمَيسورِ وَالعُسرِ

And know that no mortal is left untested

And know that for as long as you live, you are under trial,

With good and evil, ease and hardship

Through good and evil, through ease and hardship.

أَنّى تَنالَ بِها نَفعاً بِلا ضَرَرٍ

وَأَنَّها خُلِقَت لِلنَفعِ وَالضَرَرِ

How can you gain it without any harm

How can you attain benefit therein without harm,

When it was created for benefit and harm

When it was created to hold both benefit and harm?

في الجُبنِ عارٌ وَفي الإِقدامِ مَكرُمَةٌ

وَمَن يَفِرَّ فَلَن يَنجو مِنَ القَدَرِ

In cowardice lies shame, in bravery dignity

In cowardice lies disgrace, and in bold action, honor,

And he who flees his fate shall not escape it

And he who flees shall never escape destiny.
