The sword's edge alone will suffice me
The Sovereign and the edge of a sword shall suffice me,
Among the excited ones, its flash they will think a shooting star
Which, in the tumult of battle, is deemed a shooting star.
And darker than the glance of fickle fortune's spears at eve
And a dark, pliable spear from the lances of fortune,
I have sharpened its crow that it shall not be brought to reason
Whose blade I have secured to strike without favor.
With it I defend the battalion every day
With it, I drive back the battalion every single day,
Whenever war blazes into flames
Whenever war ignites into a blazing conflagration.
And around me a band who grew up noble and pure
And around me is a company of men, noble and pure,
Seeking spoils and plunder
Who hope for the spoils of war and the plunder.
And they shall not escape the danger of death
Yet they do not escape, through fear of the fates,
Seeking money therein is perilous
Neither by seeking wealth therein, nor by safe return.
So cease your threats and kindle a fire
So cast aside your threats and step into the fire,
When it dies out, you pray to it a flame
Which, if it were to die down, you would kindle as fuel.
