ما وَدَّني أَحَدٌ إِلّا بَذَلتُ لَهُ

صَفوَ المَوَدَّةِ مِنّي آخِرَ الأَبَدِ

No one has shown me affection but that I offered him

The purest of my love until the end of time;

وَلا قَلاني وَإِن كانَ المُسيءُ بِنا

إِلّا دَعَوتُ لَهُ الرَحمَنَ بِالرَشَدِ

Nor has anyone detested me—even if he were the one who wronged us—

But that I prayed to the Merciful to grant him guidance;

وَلا اِئتُمِنتُ عَلى سِرٍّ فَبُحتُ بِهِ

وَلا مَدَدتُ إِلى غَيرِ الجَميلِ يَدي

Never was I entrusted with a secret and then revealed it,

Nor did I ever extend my hand toward anything but the noble;

وَلا أَقولُ نَعَم يَوماً فَأُتبِعَهُ

بَلا وَلو ذَهَبَت بِالمالِ وَالوَلَدِ

And never do I say "Yes" one day, only to follow it

With "No"—even if keeping my word cost me my wealth and my child.
