I have tasted the vicissitudes of fate for sixty years,
I have tested the vicissitudes of time for sixty years,
And experienced my state in hardship and ease.
And experienced its two states of hardship and of ease.
Yet I have not found, after faith, a better thing than riches,
I saw no good, after faith, better than wealth,
Nor, after infidelity, a worse thing than poverty.
And saw no evil, after disbelief, worse than poverty.
