    هَدانا بِهِ الرَحمَنُ مِن عَمَهِ الجَهلِ

    I shield you with my own soul, O Chosen One, through whom

    The Most Merciful guided us out of the wandering of ignorance;

    I ransom you with my spirit—yet what is the worth of my lifeblood

    For him to whom I am kin in branch and in root?

    He who embraced me since I was a child and a growing youth,

    And refreshed me with the second draught and the first,

    وَمِن نَجلِهِ نَجلي وَمِن بِنتِهِ أَهلي

    From whose grandfather comes my grandfather, and from whose uncle, my father,

    From whose line comes my line, and from whose daughter, my household;

    And from the time he paired in brotherhood those who were present,

    It was there he named me brother and revealed my merit.

    Yours is the favor; indeed, as long as I live, I am thankful

    For the perfection of what you conferred, O Seal of the Messengers.
