With remembrance of an uncertain past, you've grown sad and weep in sorrow
Is it from remembering an age fraught with peril,
Or is it from recalling foolish people
That you have become despondent, weeping like the sorrowful?
Who with injustice oppress those calling to the faith
Or from remembering a people of foolish nature,
Never ceasing lewdness if left unharmed
Who cover with oppression those who call to the Faith?
And treachery being their uncontrolled path
They do not cease from indecency so long as they remain safe,
Do you not see God has diminished your best
And treachery among them is a path offering no security.
For we grew angry at Uthman ibn Maz'oon
Do you not see—may God diminish your fortunes—
When they insult without fear of consequence
That we have risen in anger for the sake of Uthman ibn Maz'un?
Stabbing, hitting, striking without remorse
When they strike his face, having no dread for his eye,
So He will repay them, if not killed first
With successive thrusts and blows that do not falter,
Measure for measure an uncheated recompense
For he shall repay them, if he does not die in haste,
Measure for measure, a retribution undiminished.
