نادَيتُ هَمدانَ وَالأَبَوانُ مُغلَقَةٌ
وَمِثلُ هَمدانَ سنّى فَتحَةَ البابِ
I called out to Hamdan while the gates were locked,
And the likes of Hamdan make the opening of doors an easy feat;
كَالهُندُوانِيُّ لَم تُغَلِل مَضارِبُهُ
وَجهٌ جَميلٌ وَقَلبٌ غَيرُ وَجّابِ
Like the Indian sword whose striking edges are never restrained,
A handsome face, and a heart that does not tremble.
