أَخوكَ الَّذي إِن أَخرَجَتكَ مُلِمَّةٌ

مِنَ الدَهرِ لَم يَبَرَح لَها الدَهرُ واحِما

Your brother who, if adversity

Your brother is he who, if a calamity of fate befalls you, remains unceasingly distressed on your behalf.

Assails you from fate, will not cease to blame fate,

And your brother is not he who, when affairs become tangled for you, persists in scolding and casting blame.

وَلَيسَ أَخوكَ بِالَّذي إِن تَشَعَّبَت

عَلَيكَ أُمورٌ ظَلَّ يَلحاكَ لائِما

And he is not the brother who, if affairs

Branch out against you, persists to chide you.
