وَكُن مَعدناً لِلحِلمِ وَاصفَح عَنِ الأَذى

فَإِنَكَ لاقٍ ما عَمِلتَ وَسامِعُ

Be a source of forbearance, overlook harm

Be a mine of forbearance, and pardon all injury,

For you will face what you have done, and hear it too

For you shall surely meet your deeds and hear of them.

أَحِبُّ إِذا أَحبَبتُ حُباً مُقارِباً

فَإِنَكَ لا تَدري مَتى أَنت نازِعُ

I love, when I love, with moderation

Love, when you love, with a moderate love,

For you know not when you will leave

For you know not when you might turn away.

وَأَبغِض إِذا أَبغَضتُ بَغضاً مُقارِباً

فإِنَكَ لا تَدري مَتى أَنتَ راجِعُ

I hate, when I hate, with moderation

And hate, when you hate, with a moderate hate,

For you know not when you will return

For you know not when you might return to friendship.
