Do the ignorant youth think that we
Do the children of ignorance reckon that we,
Are not like them when on horses mounted?
Upon our steeds, are not their match among knights?
Ask the sons of Badr when you meet them
So ask the clan of Badr, whenever you meet them,
About my killing of equal warriors on the day of skirmishing
Of my slaying the champions on the day of fierce struggle,
And this is Allah's Messenger among us
And this is the Messenger of Allah, like the full moon among us,
Like the full moon, by whom Allah defeated the enemies in retreat
Through whom Allah swept away the enemies in headlong defeat,
And we are a people who do not consider war a fault
Indeed, we are a folk who do not consider war a shame,
Nor do we waver when gripped by piercing spears
Nor do we turn away before the thrusting of spears,
So whatever is said about us after it
Thus no word of reproach was spoken against us in its wake,
It did not spare any of us to be armored
Nor did the battle leave a fresh garment for any to wear.
