Do not submit to any creature out of greed
Do not humble yourself before a creature out of greed,
For that is a weakness in religion from you
For that is surely a weakness in your faith.
And seek provision from Allah of what is in His treasuries
And seek your sustenance from God, from what lies in His treasuries,
For the matter is only between the "K" and the "N"
For the command stands solely between the Kaf and the Nun.
Indeed, that which you hope for and anticipate
Indeed, the one upon whom you place your hope and expectation,
From people is a poor son of a poor person
Is, among mortals, but a pauper, the son of a pauper.
How good is generosity in worldly life and in religion
How beautiful is generosity in worldly life and in religion,
And how ugly is stinginess in one formed from clay
And how ugly is miserliness in one molded from clay.
How good are religion and worldly life when they come together
How excellent are faith and worldly fortune when they unite,
May Allah not bless a worldly life without religion
May God grant no blessing to a world devoid of faith.
If intelligence increased wealth
If the intelligent man grew rich by virtue of his wits,
Every intelligent person would be like Qarun
Then every man of sense would be like Qarun.
But provision is by a scale of wisdom
But provision is dispensed by the scales of a Sovereign Judge,
He gives to the intelligent and gives to every worthless person
Who gives to the wise man and gives to every fool.
