Afatema, wave that sword which is not blunt
O Fatimah, take this sword, for it is not to be blamed,
For I am neither weak nor cowardly
For I am neither a trembling coward nor base of character.
Afatema, I have exerted myself in supporting Ahmad
O Fatimah, I have truly tested myself in the aid of Ahmad,
And pleasing a Lord who is Kind to His servants
And for the pleasure of a Lord who is Merciful to His servants.
I want only God's reward and nothing else
I desire the reward of God—nothing other than that—
And His approval in a Garden and Bliss
And His good pleasure amidst Paradise and bliss.
And I was a man they called on when war raged
For I was a man who stands tall when war bares its fangs
And rose on a leg without hesitation
And rises to its full height, free from any reproach.
You slept, son of Abdel Dar, until I struck you
I laid low the son of Abd al-Dar when I struck him
With a polished sword that shreds bones to pieces
With a gleaming blade that cleaves through solid bone.
I left him in the battlefield as his army scattered
I left him upon the plain, and his forces scattered,
And relieved the chest of every wise man
And thus I healed the hearts of all the forbearing ones.
And my sword in my hand flashes like a meteor
My sword in my hand is like a meteor as I brandish it,
With which I sever shoulders and cores
Shearing through shoulders and vital cores alike.
