1. يجلو الهمومَ إذا تدْجو مذاهبُها

    بصفْوِ إِحْسانه والمنْظر الحَسنِ

    Sorrows fade away in his kind compassion,

    And pleasing countenance so fair;

  2. وموسع القِرن والهيجاءُ مُظْلمةٌ

    ضرباً يفرِّقُ بين النَّفْس والبدنِ

    His visage shines like the full moon at night,

    Dispelling gloom mid shadows there;

  3. وراسخُ الحلم والأحْلامُ طائشةٌ

    تخالُ في الدَّست منه هَضْبتَيْ حضَن

    Forbearing, wise, yet fanciful in dreams,

    In his embrace lie maidens fair;

  4. صوبٌ من الجود يسقي كلَّ هامدَةٍ

    رِيّاً إذا عزَّ صوب العارض الهَتِنِ

    From his open hand the thirsty drink,

    When hot winds leave the meadows bare;

  5. سُيوفُه في الوغى والسَّلْم كافِلَةٌ

    منه بحتْفٍ كُماةِ الرَّوع والبُدُن

    His swords flash bright in peace and war,

    Guarding his land from dread and care;

  6. فما يَعُدُّ فِرارَ الجيش صارِمُهُ

    نصْراً ولا يُقْنعُ العَيْمانَ باللَّبَنِ

    His forces never turn to flee,

    Nor weakly settles he for fare;

  7. يُحاذِرُ البغْي في عِزٍّ ومقْدرةٍ

    ويتَّقي اللّهَ في سِرٍّ وفي عَلَنِ

    He shuns injustice in his might,

    And fears the Lord both here and there;

  8. تلقى الوزير إِذا الأحداثُ باسِرةٌ

    بَسَّام ثغْرٍ رحيب الصَّدر والعطَن

    The minister meets troubles with a smile,

    Open-hearted, generous, debonair;

  9. يرى المكارمَ فرضاً حين يحْسبُها

    سواه من رُخَص الأفعالِ والسُّنَن

    To him noble deeds are but a duty,

    Not favor to be trumpeted far and wide;

  10. فلا عدتْ شَرف الدين الوزير عُلاً

    محسودةٌ من بني الأزْمان والزَّمَن

    Thus the minister's holy zeal,

    Envied near and far, spread far and wide

  11. جودٌ بلا سائلٍ حلمٌ بلا غضبٍ

    بأسٌ بلا غِلْظَةٍ حزْمٌ بلا جُبن

    Giving freely, sparing wrath, gentleness and courage blest,

    Living while others die in mortal tide;

  12. فعاش أحمدُ ما حَنَّتْ وما بغمَتْ

    مصْفودةٌ من وراء البَرْك في قَرن

    May Ahmed live long years in joy,

    From grief and gloom long purified!
