You are the star of the Faith among the godfearing,
radiant and lofty, splendid to behold.
And when deep, relentless drought declares itself,
you, O Yazdan, are a star heralding rain.
Thus piety, then generosity, have both borne witness
that you are noble—by experience and by report.
The horseman’s head, or else his breast,
both complain of your spear and the keen, virile blade.
May fasting and the breaking of the fast bring you joy as long as
a gray dove among the birds warbles at dawn.
