May you and Shams al-Din remain, for glory and exalted rank,
both mighty, so long as a songbird alights in the arak tree.
For he who kept you both alive and nurtured you has not died.
May a vast pardon from God enfold him—
Copiously raining clouds—your two rain-bringers, your two abiding supports—are his bounty,
which has never ceased since the cleaving blades carried him away from us.
Najm al-Din’s stand in every glorious exploit
is renowned; battles and assemblies alike praise him for it.
And if he patiently endures, patience is his innate disposition,
when thrusting lances splinter among the mail-clad warriors.
