A Hashimite fragrance hints of him,

When his virtues are recited, their goodness exhales musk.

Time has been perfumed by it as though it were

The lips of a bride withholding her kiss.

Firm pillars, when vileness becomes noisy, and a forbearing man

When the turns of fate arouse its firm pillars.

When war flames, he is its quencher,

And if words run short, he is their spokesman.

Impregnable, honorable, bold, and high-minded protector,

Magnanimous, freely giving from full hands.

You have tried the poets, O cousin of Muhammed,

Flawed and blameworthy is he who finds flaws in it.

How many fools and ignorant men fault my words,

I pass by laughing, making no reply.

Trusting that I excel, and that I

Have singular meanings of subtle grace.

Minds fall short comprehending its purity,

So that its critic is an ignoramus, and its adept.

My words about you are a brilliant sun

Dazzling people ― they have not seen its like.

May God protect you as long as the dawn star rises

And as long as the sun of day continues its setting.
