O you whose is glory in all its fullness,
among the far-removed and distant, and those present—
and you who, whenever a refugee turns toward you,
stand in place of both the sword and the rain-cloud:
I call to your mind the old bond and those born of it,
though you are the very one who knows and remembers.
Indeed, the sons of al-Ṣāḥib have lost
an awe-inspiring man, like a radiant standard.
How many a bygone service of his came before,
and a fellowship to be honored for the one who follows.
For the people’s fracture in what befell them
has no mender but the bounty of your two hands.
So grant a gracious favor that revives the fortunes of high honor,
raising the stumbling one from the weakness of his fall.
