إذا شِئتَ أن تلقى المناقب والعُلى

تجمَّعْن في شخص من الناس واحد

If you wish to attain virtues and heights,

They would all be found in one person.

وفاءً وجوداً واصْطباراً ونَجْدةً

وديناً إذا الْتاثَتْ كِرامُ العَقائدِ

Loyalty, generosity, patience, and excellence,

And faith when beliefs are shaken.

فللصاحب الصَّدر الكبير تجمَّعَتْ

شَتائتُها والدَّهْرُ أكبرُ شاهِدِ

For the one with a great heart they all gathered,

Scattered across time yet he's the greatest witness.

فما عضد الدين الجوادُ فتى النَّدى

نظيراً لهُ في المكْرُماتِ بواجِدِ

None equals the generous, genteel helper of faith,

In honorable deeds, however you seek.

فتىً لا يكفُّ العُدْمُ جودَ يمينِه

ولا يسْتفزُّ الحِلْم روعُ الشدائد

A youth whom lack cannot curb his giving hand,

Nor provocation incite against calamities.

ولا يبْذُلُ المعروفَ إِلا تبرُّعاً

إذا كدَّر المعروف شوْبُ المَواعِد

He only volunteers good deeds,

When good deeds are marred with ulterior motives.

أشَدُّ من الهوْجاء عند اعْتزامِهِ

وذو هَضباتٍ حِلْمُهُ وقَعائدِ

Fiercer than raging winds when resolved,

Yet his composure has bases and structures.

وسافعُ قيْظٍ في الحفيظةِ لافِحٌ

وذو خَصرٍ في السَّلْم عذب الموارد

Scorching in safeguarding, ardent in zeal,

And gentle in peace, pure in means.

وكاليث يُرْدي كلَّ قرْنٍ مُنازلٍ

وكالغيث يُحْيي كلَّ أغْبرَ هامِد

Like a lion felling all lofty horns,

Or rain reviving all dormant ruins.

نماهُ إِلى إِحْرازِ كلِّ شَديدةٍ

من المجد مسعى كلِّ أرْوعَ ماجد

Aspiring in glory drove him to claim

Each feat, the quest of every splendid hero.

من النُّبُلِ الغُرِّ الذين إذا ادَّعوا

أقَرَّ وألْقى فخرهُ كلُّ جاحِدِ

Of purebred nobles, when they claim ancestry,

Every skeptic surrenders and casts off pride.

سِراعٌ إلى صوتِ الصَّريخ وثرْوةِ

الفقيرِ ومجموعِ العُلى والمَحامِدِ

Racing to the cry of the poor, and riches

Of the needy, the heights, and all praises combined.

فهُنِّيَتِ الأعْيادُ منهُ بِسالِمٍ

مَدى الدهرِ باقٍ للمكارمِ خالدِ

Through him, feasts were blessed with safety,

Enduring through time, immortal in bounty.
