1. إذا نعمةُ الإنسان لم تكُ قُرْبةً

    إلى اللّه رَبِّ العرشِ فهي بَلاءُ

    If man's blessing brings him not near

    To God, Lord of the mighty Throne, 'tis but bale;

  2. وكلُّ غِنىً لم يُستفدْ بوجودهِ

    رِضى اللّهِ والعَلْياءَ فهو عَناءُ

    And wealth that wins not the favour sincere

    Of God, and true glory, is only travail;

  3. ومما شَجا نفس الحِجا بيعُ خالدٍ

    بأعْراضِ لَهْوٍ ما لَهُنَّ بَقاءُ

    And the woe that wounded the pilgrim soul

    Was the sale of Khalid for vanities frail

  4. ومن نظرَ الدنيا بعيْنِ حقيقيةٍ

    تَشابهَ يأسٌ عندهُ ورَجاءُ

    That endure not; and whoso the world doth control

    With the eye of the Truth, despair and hope are the same to him ever.
