Is it a gathering cloud or a sad melody,
That flows gently from the meadow asking for respite?
It aspires to ascend to generosity, its lightnings shine,
While the darkness of fate envelops our days and nights.
When floods burst forth from the mountains,
The caravans drown and beasts wander astray.
For me, its difficulties accumulated until I was overwhelmed,
Stirring my feelings for the heights and rhymes.
So I laid out to my companions the wonders of his glory,
Strange tales that make past ages feel renewed.
Songs of praise, as if their scent,
Is a summer breeze blowing through the valleys.
They teach the eulogizer vigilant and lucid,
When he sets out for the most high at dawn.
A valiant horseman in the saddle of war, shaken
Among polished swords and blades.
He leaves the down of dawn at night and gets separated
From the forelocks of heads tossed about and sliced off.
When he turns away from the multitude of water, he leads them
To water from springs that flows slowly.
She disdains treading on the ground so he makes her
Leave her enemies and valleys behind.
And excellent is the climate where the raiders camped
When the dust of years covered the ruins.
The necks of lambs go astray in the darkness and gloom
So their fires make the lambs fall asleep at night.
As if winter with its bareness amongst its houses
Is like spring that makes the icy mountains green.
You were generous while profiting from the people,
When you bought eternal goods with fleeting ones.
