1. مُمدَّحٌ غمْرُ الرِّداء والشِّيَمْ

    إذا حمى أبْدى وإِن جادَ كَتَمْ

    Praiseworthy is his complete generosity,

    When resolute he shows mercy, and when generous he conceals.

  2. شهْمٌ يفِرُّ القرْنُ منه والعدَمْ

    منْ رائعِ البأس وفيَّاض الكرَمْ

    A staunch lion that others flee from in fear and helplessness,

    Magnanimous in valor, overflowing in munificence,

  3. طوْدٌ من الصَّبر إذا الخطب ألَمْ

    وصارِمٌ ذو شُطَبٍ إذا عَزَمْ

    A pillar of patience when faced with adversity,

    A determined, unyielding sword when resolute,

  4. طبٌّ بضرب الدَّارعين في القِمَمْ

    حتى إذا الجَوُّ من المَحْلِ قَتَمْ

    Excellent in striking down fully-armed warriors at their peaks,

    Until the atmosphere is cleared of adversaries,

  5. واحلولكتْ غُبرته حتى ادْلهمْ

    وأصبح القِشْعُ شتيتاً مُقْتسمْ

    And its dust settles after finishing them off,

    And the battlefield is left fragmented and divided,

  6. مُفرَّقاً مثل أقاطيعِ النَّعَمْ

    لا بلَلٌ من جَوْنِه ولا رَذَمْ

    Scattered like livestock grazing freely,

    With no wetness from his blade or bloodstains,

  7. أغْنى ندى الصَّاحب عن صوب الديم

    وجادَ أغْماضَ الرجال والأكم

    The hospitality of my companion suffices over provisions of blood,

    And he generously pours forth the souls of men and skulls,

  8. بالوابل الغَيْداق من صوب النِّعمْ

    لا بلَلٌ من جَوْنِه ولا رَذَمْ

    With abundant, unstinting gifts from the side of blessings,

    With no wetness from his blade or bloodstains.

  9. يرْهبُه الفقْرُ وتخْشاهُ الإِزَمْ

    منْ تامِكٍ وذي سَنامينِ أحَمْ

    Destitution fears him, and hardship is wary of him,

    Of perfect physique and with sublime features,

  10. أموالهُ الدَّثْر الكثيف لا الصَّرمْ

    فهو عِمادُ الدولة الوافي الذِّمَمْ

    His wealth is abundant riches, not meager,

    He is the pillar of the state, fulfilling all responsibilities,

  11. مجْدُ المُلوكِ والمَلاذِ المُعتصم

    إنْ حادثٌ جار وإنْ خطبٌ ألَمْ

    The glory of kings and the refuge of those seeking protection.

    If an adversity comes about or an affliction pains,

  12. عاش مُطاعاً ما هَدى السَّفْر علَم

    أيَّامُه في كلِّ ما يبْغي خَدَمْ

    He lives obeyed for as long as the journey of life continues,

    His days in all that he desires are served.
