غَنِمْتَها والكَريمُ غَنَّامُ
لا عارَ في كسْبها ولا ذامُ
You gained it, while the generous are gainers,
No shame in acquiring it, no blame.
خالدَةً في الزَّمانِ باقِيَةً
تُجِدُّها أعْصُرٌ وأعْوامُ
Immortalized through time, everlasting,
Found by centuries and eras.
مُقيمَةَ الدّارِ وهي سائرةٌ
تَنْشُرُها ألسُنٌ وأقْلامُ
Settled in homes, while still travelling,
Spread by tongues and pens.
رواتُها الغَرْبُ والحِجازُ مَعاً
وفارِسٌ والعِراقُ والشامُ
Sung by West and Hejaz together,
And Persia, Iraq and Syria too.
مَدائحاً كالنُّجومِ مُشْرِقَةً
فهي هُداةٌ للمجْدِ أعْلامُ
Eulogies shining like the stars,
Leading glory, the highest signs.
ولم تَزَلْ بالعُلى أخا كَلَفٍ
فيكَ بها صَبْوَةٌ وتَهْيامُ
Never ceasing to rise, like Mount Kelpe,
In you a crashing wave, seething sea.
ويسْهَرُ النَاسُ في مَطالبهمْ
وكُلُّتُهمْ للوثوقِ نَوَّامُ
People lose sleep pursuing goals,
All hopeful, to rely, slumbering.
وليتَها والبلادُ مُجْدِبَةٌ
مُغْبَرَّةٌ صُبْحُنَّ إِظْلامُ
If only it and the lands were barren,
Dusty, their dawns deep darkness.
فأخْصَبَ الحَزنُ والسُّهول معاً
حتى تَساوى قَفْرٌ وأهْضامُ
Then sorrow and plains flourished alike,
Equal wasteland and rubble.
يا عضُد الدِّين والمُروءَةِ
والمَعْروفِ والكْرُماتُ أقْسامُ
Oh pillar of faith, chivalry,
Kindness - all noble parts.
يا فارِسَ الجُرْدِ والنَّوالِ إذا
أخْلَفَ نَوْءٌ وفَرَّ مِقْدامُ
Oh horseman of steed and scabbard, when
Misfortune groans and the brave retreat.
ومَنْ إذا نازَلَ الجَحافِلَ والإِمْلاقَ
وَلَّى جَيْشٌ وإِعْدامُ
And who, when legions clash with onslaught,
And an army flees, destroyed.
يا ناثِرَ الهامِ في مَعارِكِهِ
وهو لِدُرِّ السُّطورِ نَظَّامُ
Oh spreader of resolve in his battles,
To the lines of prose, he lends rhythm.
يا راجحاً والحُلومُ طائشَةٌ
وماضياً والحُسامُ مِحْجامُ
Oh outweigher, while others lose control,
Marching on, as swords stay sheathed.
ومُسْتَقِلَّ الدُّنْيا لسائلِهِ
يَظُنُّ قَلْتاً والجودُ قَمْقامُ
Independent in giving all seek from him,
Thought meager, his generosity gushes.
كريمُ عَهْدٍ قَشيبُ مَعْرِفَةٍ
حيثُ وِدادُ الرِّجالِ أهْدامُ
Noble in pact, wise in knowing,
Where goodwill of men lies wrecked.
تَسْليمةُ اليومِ عند هِمَّتِهِ
عَهْدٌ لهُ مِرَّةٌ وإِحْكامُ
Surrender of today at his ambition
A covenant to him, binding, intact.
ثَبْتُ النُّهى لا يَفِلُ عَزْمَته
إلى المَعالي نَقْضٌ وإِبْرامُ
Resolve's foundation never fails,
To glory, annulment and creation both.
بَقيتَ للمَجْدِ والعُلى أبَداً
ما حازَ شُكْرَ الأحْرارِ إِنْعامُ
You remained for renown and heights forever,
What won the gratitude of freemen.
إنَّ لساني الذي أدِلُّ بهِ
وهو طَريرُ الشَّباهِ صِمْصامُ
My tongue with which I express
The warbling of youth, twittering bird.
يكِلُّ عنْ شُكْرِ ما أتَيْتَ بهِ
فهو عَييُّ الأداءِ تَمْتامُ
Falls short of thanking your great gifts,
Weakened, to fulfil, stuttering.
وكيف يَحْوي سِقاءُ راحِلَةٍ
يَمّاً لهُ زَخْرَةٌ وإِجْمامُ
How can a camel's waterskin contain
A deluge, swelling and flooding within?
