اذا موسمٌ عادت فوائدُ خيرهِ

على الناس نال الخير منك المواسمُ

When the season returns, its benefits

Come to people, seasons gained goodness from you

ملأتَ زمان الناس رِفْداً ونجدةً

فبأسك مضَّاءٌ وجودكَ ساجم

You filled the time of people with plenty and help

So your valor is shining and your generosity pouring

وأصبحت من فرط التعفف والتقي

كأنك طُول الدهرْ للهِ صائمُ

And you became from excessive chastity and piety

As if you fasted for God forever

اذا جفَّف الجدب البلاد وأمسكت

عن القَطْرِ في أنوائهنَّ الغمائمُ

When drought dries up the countries and holds back

The rain in their clouds, the clouds

وأصبح لُجُّ الرافدين كأنه

صَرى ثمدٍ غالتْ نَداهُ السَّمائم

And the Tigris River becomes as if it is

A bulging vein, its abundance blown away by the winds

فسيَّانِ بادٍ في المحلولِ وحاضرٌ

وسيَّانِ غزلانُ المَلا والعَلاجمُ

So it flows in the undone and present

And gazelles of beauty and grace flow

فلا غدوةٌ اِلا خَبارٌ ووعْتَةٌ

تناهُبها أخْفافُها المناسمُ

So no morning except good news and livelihood

Shared among those whose hooves race the seasons

قريت الغنى والأمن من غير عِلَّةٍ

فلا الجور قتَّالٌ ولا المحلُ حارمُ

I lived in prosperity and security without worries

So neither injustice a killer, nor the land forbidden

قِرى عضد الدين المُقرِّ بجودهِ

ونجدته صوبُ الحيا والصَّوارمُ

The villages aided by his generosity

And his help towards life and swords

فهُني شهر الصوم والدهرُ كلهُ

به ما شدا فوق الأراكِ الحَمائمُ

So it is the month of fasting and the whole life

Through it whatever soared above the treetops

مُطاع النَّواهي والأوامرِ تُتَّقى

سُطاه ويُرجى خيره وهو سالم

Obeyed prohibitions and commands are avoided

His authority, and his goodness hoped for, and he is well
