1. قد لفَّها الليلُ بمدلاج الليلْ

    ألَفَّ هفْهافِ الإزار والذيل

    The night has wrapped her in the dark blanket of night

    Bringing together the rustling of her gown and train

  2. ليس بِرعديدٍ ولا بزُمَّيلْ

    جلْد السرى مُعودٍ طرد الخيل

    Not with thunder or lightning

    But the smooth hide of Sirius accustomed to driving away horses

  3. إلى الكمال الدَّارمي ذي النِّيلْ

    إلى الغمام المُعْتفى ليْث الغيلْ

    To Al-Darmi of perfect beauty, of the Nile

    To the desired cloud, lion of lions

  4. نماهُ للعلياء قَيْلٌ عن قَيْلْ

    يغنيه لفح الحر عن شرب القيْل

    He was raised to glory, generation after generation

    The heat of summer quenches his thirst better than fresh rainwater

  5. كأنما عطاؤه مَدُّ السَّيلْ

    As if his generosity flows like a flood
