1. أقوالُ له والزهو يُنغضُ عِطْفه

    وزينَتُه مَعْسولة وشَمائُلهْ

    Words for him, and arrogance wrinkles his brow,

    His adornment honey-sweet, and his traits,

  2. يُسيل الضواحي بالدماء وتُمتطي

    إِلى غير روْعٍ جُرْدُه وصواهلهْ

    He lets blood flow through the suburbs, and mounts

    To no comfort his steed and his weapons.

  3. أتفخرُ أن سُمِّيتَ عيداً وللعُلى

    ببعدادَ عيدٌ ما تَغِبُّ نَوافِلُهْ

    Do you boast you were named a feast? While in Baghdad

    A feast that its rituals never go missed,

  4. يسُرُّ بني الدنيا من الحول مرةً

    إِلى الحوْل نزرٌ من ندىً أنت باذله

    The world rejoices in it once a year,

    While you are but a bit of dew I can spare.

  5. وسرَّ ابنُ حمادٍ بني الدهر دائماً

    فلم يعْدُنا يوماً نَداهُ ونائلُهْ

    Ibn Hammad's secret was always to smile through time,

    Never once failing us, his day and his night.

  6. وجئتَ عقرِ النيبِ وهو بعقْرها

    وعَقْرِ أعاديهِ حدادٌ مَناصِلُهْ

    Yet you came to slay the Prophet in his home,

    And slay his foes, though mourning's blades still bite.

  7. فتى الحي وضَّاحُ الجبين مُشمرٌ

    إِلى المجدِ تشْقى نيبُهُ وعَواذلُهْ

    A lad alive and bright of brow, resolved

    To glory though his Prophet's life it took

  8. تهابُ رئيس مُرهفة الظُّبى

    ويحْسدُه دَرُّ الغِمامِ ووابِلُهْ

    A leading man of refined manners is feared

    Envied by stars and clouds that rain and pour

  9. اذا اجتمع البحرانُ خُبْرٌ وخضرم

    غَدا بهما اِفْضالهُ وفَضائلُهْ

    When the two seas meet: Hudaybiyyah and Khudayr,

    His superiority and merits show all the more.
