1. ورُبَّ قومٍ عِدىً قد فلَّ غربَهُم

    ولم تُسَلَّ لِلُقْياهُمْ بَواترُهُ

    Many a tribe did tyrannize, yet their pride was brought low,

    And no camels were left to carry their supplies.

  2. أجمَّ جُرْد المذاكي عن طِرادِهمُ

    وللعزائم شَدٌّ قَلَّ عاثرهُ

    The horses of war refrain from charging at them,

    And firm resolve withstands those who make excuses.

  3. المخجل الغيث اِن جاشتْ مكارمُه

    والهازمُ اللَّيثَ انْ عنَّت بوادرهُ

    The rain is ashamed to wet one whose generosity has dried up,

    And the lion scorns one whose bravery has weakened.

  4. يذكو النديُّ اذا تُتْلى مَناقِهُ

    كأنما فَضَّ فيه المِسْكَ تاجِرهُ

    Frankincense, when it is burned, gives off its fragrance,

    As if the perfume merchant had opened up his wares.

  5. هو الحليمُ وأوفى ما يكون على ال

    جاني حَليماً اذا جَلَّتْ جرائرهُ

    He is forbearing, keeping his word despite

    Provocation, gracious even when offenses abound.

  6. مُشاركي طرَباً فيما أوفوهُ به

    فهماً كأنِّيَ منْ قولٍ أعاقِرهُ

    My companions rejoice in what they have offered me,

    As if I were the original author of their words.

  7. مسعى الوزير حميدٌ في مواردهِ

    فأُحْمدتْ في مَساعيهِ مَصادرهُ

    The endeavors of the excellent vizier are fruitful,

    And his efforts have yielded beneficial results.
