يزيدُ في عِزِّ الفتى ذُلُّهُ

حيناً واِنْ كانَ لهُ آبيا

A young man's dignity increases his humiliation

At times, even if he has a determined father

كسابقٍ قَصَّرَ عنْ غايةٍ

فكانَ بالسَّوْطِ لَها حاويا

Like a racer who falls short of the goal

So the whip makes him reach it
