1. لئن غِبتُ عن نادي عُلاكَ فانني

    بقلبي ومدحي حاضرُ النفس ماثلُ

    Though I am absent from your lofty gatherings,

    My soul and my praise are present, standing before you.

  2. تُعطِّر أفواه الرواة قلائدي

    وتُزهى بما اُثْني عليكَ المحافلُ

    My poems adorn the mouths of the narrators,

    And the assemblies are graced with my praise of you.

  3. وأعلمُ مهما نِلتهُ من بلاغةٍ

    بأنَّ مديحي دون مجدكَ نازلُ

    And I know that no matter what eloquence I attain,

    My praise falls short of your glory.

  4. تودُّ سُطاكَ المشرفيَّةُ والقَنا

    وتحسدُ جدْوى راحتيك الحوافل

    The eminent long for your leadership, and the brave

    Envy the comfort of your repose.

  5. وتُسفرُ للخطب البهيمِ وللدُّجى

    فينجابُ مكروهٌ وتسْجو زلازلُ

    Dawn breaks on preachers of ignorance and darkness,

    So evil is shunned and tremors subside.

  6. حوى شرف الدين العلى وهو يافع

    فلا الوعر مرهوبٌ ولا الذعر شاغلُ

    The lofty religion grew under his youthful care,

    So neither hardship is feared, nor panic fills the heart.

  7. يهونُ عليه كل صعبٍ ورائعٍ

    وفي الدَّست منه العبقريُّ الحلاحلُ

    All that is difficult and extraordinary is easy for him,

    And in his hand the ingenious find relief.

  8. جوادٌ ببذل المال في كل أزْمَةٍ

    ولكنه بالجار والعِرضِ باخِلُ

    Generous in spending money in every crisis,

    But with neighbor and honor he is stingy.

  9. اذا مالكُ العلياء عدَّتْ فخارها

    وسعْدٌ فبالصدر الوزير تُساجلُ

    When the nobles count his superior merits,

    Sa'd competes with an ample chest.

  10. بمن يلثمُ الصِّيدُ الملوكُ بساطهُ

    وتنقادُ للأمرِ المُطاعِ الجحافلُ

    With him the kings adorn their rule,

    And the obedient hosts submit to his command.
