1. يسير إلى اكتساب المجدِ شَدّاً

    كما خرجت إلى الغرضِ السِّهامُ

    He strides to gain glory,

    As arrows set out for their target.

  2. ويرزنُ اِذ يطيش الخطبُ عِطفاً

    كما يرسو ثبيرٌ أو شَمامُ

    He gallops when fate takes a sudden turn,

    As the rain pours or locusts swarm.

  3. أَغرُّ يُضيءُ ليلُ الحظِّ منهُ

    ويُشرقُ من مُحَيَّاهُ الظَّلامُ

    The bright moon illuminates the night of fortune through him,

    And darkness is dispelled by his shining forehead.

  4. بوادرهُ غَمامٌ أو حِمامٌ

    إِذا ما عَنَّ مَحْلٌ أو خِصامُ

    His signs are clouds or doves,

    Whenever a place is inhabited or there is strife.

  5. طليقُ الوجه أغْلبُ هاشميٌّ

    له في كلِّ مكْرُمةٍ مَقامُ

    Open-faced, a victorious Hashimite,

    He has a position in every honor.

  6. تُحاذر بأسهُ خُشنُ المَواضي

    وتحسدُهُ على اللُّطْفِ المُدامُ

    The rough deserts fear his might,

    And gentleness envies his constancy.

  7. يُسرُّك منه فِرْدٌ في المعالي

    واِمَّا هيجَ فالجيشُ اللُّهامُ

    You are pleased by his unique excellence,

    Or else it is the intrepid army.

  8. معانٍ من مَعالٍ باهِراتٍ

    دِقاقٌ عند مُعْتَبرٍ ضِخامُ

    Profound meanings from glorious deeds,

    Subtle with the discerning, mighty for the ignorant.

  9. يُجيرُ على الزمانِ من الرَّزايا

    فمنهُ بكل نازلَةٍ عِصامُ

    He protects the times from calamities,

    So he has a solution for every affliction.

  10. إِذا ما الدهرُ لم يسمعْ لقولي

    فصمْتٌ دونَ أيْسَرهِ الكلامُ

    If fate does not heed my words,

    Then silence before his speech is best.
