عُلَّقَتْهُ والصِّبا غض الأديمْ

مهمل الوفرة من آل تميمْ

She hung it while the morning breeze was still tender,

Neglected abundance from the family of Tamim.

يحسنُ التاجُ على مفرقهِ

ناشراً في يوم بؤسٍ ونعيم

The crown looks beautiful on his forehead,

Spreading on a day of misery and blessings.

يُنهل الصعدةَ من أقرانه

ويلبي طارق الليل البهيم

He drinks Sada from his peers,

And answers the night caller, the terrified one.

رتبٌ غادرنه ذا شغلٍ

بهواها عن هوى ظبيٍ وريم

Ranks he left due to his preoccupation,

With his love instead of the love of a gazelle and an oryx.

فالعُلى والقلب من همته

بين إِعمال رويٍّ ورسيم

So the glory and the heart from his ambition,

Between implementing a garden and meadow.

وعلى الأحياء دينٌ فادحٌ

أوسع الدهر به مطلُ الغريم

And over the living there is an overwhelming debt,

The enemy spreads it, having a long hope.

كلما طولعَ حالت دونهُ

سورة المقدار لا بأس الخصوم

Whenever he rises, the limits of fate prevent him,

Like insurmountable strong fortifications.

يا لقومي من نزار غارةً

تخلطُ القوم بريئاً بسقيم

Oh my people, what an outstanding raid,

That mixes the innocent with the sick.

تعجل الفارس عن تحصينه

وجريح القوم عن شد الكلوم

It makes the horseman hurry away from his fortification,

And the wounded one from bandaging his wound.

فبعيدٌ دركُ المجدِ ولم

أحمل النفس على الهول العظيم

So recognizing glory is far, and I have not

Borne myself upon the great horror.

وأثير النَّقع من أنديةٍ

يعبقُ المندلُ فيها بالنسيم

And the striking of tents in encampments,

Where the incense burner scents with the breeze.

بمامين صباح كشموسٍ

وخناذيذَ جيادٍ كنجوم

With the retainers of a morning like lamps,

And racing steeds like stars.

عاديات ترجفُ الأرض لها

برجال مثل حنَّان الصَّريمْ

Racing she-camels that shake the earth,

With men like the towering Hannan.

يوم لا حسن الغواني شافعٌ

عند ذي الطعن ولا ودُّ الحميم

A day when the beautiful slave girl is no intercessor,

With the critic, nor is the love of a friend.

واشتجار الضرب من حرَّته

مذهل الأمِّ عن الطفل الرؤوم

And the clamor of beating overwhelmed,

The anxious mother from the crying infant.

وسليم الفلِّ ملقٍ نفسه

فترى كل سليمٍ ككليم

And the brave youth threw himself,

So you see every brave one like Kalim.

اضعف الروعَ قواهم فاغْتدى

عَسلانُ الرمح في ساق الهزيم

The weakest of them attacked fiercely,

The slick spear in the flank of the retreating one.

أنا بالروع كفيل والعُلى

كافلاتٌ لي بالملك العقيم

I guarantee courage, and glory

Guarantees for me the fruitless kingdom.

وبنو الزوراء من هزلهم

شُغلوا عن حمل أعباءِ الهموم

And the sons of Zoraa busied themselves with their joking,

Distracted from bearing the burdens of worries.

حسبوا أني منهم مثلما

صحَّف القوم رجيماً برحيم

They thought I was one of them, just as

The people wrongly identified Rahim as Rajim.

لستُ بالكلِّ على حيكمُ

مُنْصلُي ماضٍ وبيتي في الصميم

I am not one of you in your affairs,

A protector of the past, while my abode is fortified.

أن ذا الأعواد مني لأبٌ

باذل الرفد ومناعُ الحريم

That this one with tent poles is a father to me,

Generous in gifts, protecting the sanctuary.

ضارب القبَّة للاجي وقد

أخذ الضيمُ بأطواق المضيم

Striking the dome for refugees, and injustice

Has taken the oppressed in its grip.

حين لا أمر نبيِّ طاعةٌ

توجب الحُكم ولا فتوى العليم

When there is no command of the Prophet, obedience

That necessitates rule, nor the jurist's decree.

من لخيلي أن تُرى مبثوثةً

أُمَمً الحي تمطَّى بالشكيمْ

If only my horses were seen scattered,

Hordes of the living, mounted with dignity.

توسع الأعداء طرداً مثلما

طرد الفقر فتى عبد الكريم

The enemies flee like the poverty,

That expelled the young servant of the Generous.
