يا خالِدَ الدَّوْلَةِ لا يُعْطي
إِلاَّ عَطاءً خالِدَ الذِّكْرِ
O Khaled, of everlasting kingdom, gives
Only gifts of lasting renown.
أنْعِمْ بأمْلاكي التي ابْتَعْتُها
بأشْرَفِ الأثْمانِ مِنْ عُمْري
Bestow upon me my possessions which I acquired
With the noblest of prices, my lifetime.
أنْفَقْتُ فيها كُلَّ مَنْفوسَةٍ
أهْنَؤُها الرَّائِقُ من شِعْري
I spent therein every beloved thing,
Whose absence grieves my poetry.
فكُلُّ شَيءٍ ما عَدا ضَيْعَتي
لا يَرْقَعُ الخَرْقَ مِن الفَقْرِ
So everything I own except my farm
Cannot mend the tear of poverty,
وهي إذا قيسَتْ إلى جودِكُمْ
كَحُسْوَةِ الطَّائرِ مِنْ بَحْر
And compared to your generosity,
It is but a bird's beakful from the sea.
