1. أبا الفوارسِ والأيامُ شاهدةٌ

    أنت الجواد إذا ما عزَّتِ الديمُ

    O father of the knights, and the days bear witness

    You are generous when glory is scarce

  2. ما كنتُ مادحَ خِلٍّ غير ذي شرف

    أبى لي المجدُ والعلياءُ والهِممُ

    I would not praise an ignoble friend

    Glory and nobility refused me not, nor lofty aspirations

  3. الخوف والمحْلُ مهزومان منك إذا

    جرى بكفك بأس النَّصر والكرمُ

    Fear and ignominy are vanquished by you when

    The might of victory and generosity flow through your hand

  4. فحيثما كنت من أرضٍ فلا فرقٌ

    يروعُ جاراً دنا منها ولا عَدمُ

    So wherever you are on earth, there is no difference

    That would frighten a neighbour, whether far or near

  5. من كفك الدهر في جدب ومُعترك

    لا يُمسكان نوالٌ هاطلٌ ودَمُ

    You make time, in barrenness and conflict

    Unable to withhold a pouring rain and blood

  6. إذا شهدت الوغى رَوْعاءَ هائلةً

    تخاذلت لك هام القوم والقِممُ

    When you witness fierce, frightening warfare

    The chieftains and summit-men cower before you

  7. فهامةُ القرنْ قبل الضرب طائحةٌ

    ومهجة الذِّمر قبل الطعن تُخترمُ

    The zebra's crest falls before the blow

    And the ostrich's brain is crushed before the stab

  8. طبعت سيفك من عزم خُصصت به

    وعامل الرُّمح من رأيٍ لهُ حكمُ

    You have imprinted your sword with resolve you were distinguished by

    And wield the spear with a judicious mind

  9. فقاطعٌ وسيوف الهند نابيةٌ

    ونافذٌ ونحور الحُمْسِ تنقصِمُ

    So it cuts, while the swords of India waver

    And penetrates, while the throats of warriors are severed

  10. ومن كمثل حسام الدين في رهَجٍ

    واللأمُ يُخْرقٌ والخطِّيُّ ينحطمُ

    Who is like the Sword of the Faith in fierce combat

    While the helmets split and the coats of mail crumble?

  11. طلق المُحيا ووجه الشمس منكسف

    تبكي السيوفُ دماءً وهو مُبتسمُ

    With relaxed expression and face of sunshine

    While the swords shed tears, he smiles

  12. سهل الخلائق ما من وده مللٌ

    يُقصي الصحاب ولا في طبعه سأم

    He makes people feel at ease, his affection never fades

    He avoids boon-companions, and tedium is not in his nature

  13. نارٌ من السخط للأعداء محرقةٌ

    وموردٌ من نوالٍ ماؤهُ شَبِمُ

    A fire of wrath, incinerating the foes

    And a source of plenty, its water sweet

  14. تُثْني عليه تميمٌ وهي من علمتْ

    عُلياً كنانةَ أنَّ المجد عندهُمُ

    Tamim speaks highly of him, for it knows

    Glory resides with the exalted Kinanah
