1. جُعلت من الحدثان أحصن أدرع

    فلقد سُننَّ على الكريم الأرْوعِ

    I have been made of armor the most impregnable

    For I have been fashioned for the most honorable

  2. شرفت على شرف اللبوس فغودرت

    فلكاً لشمس عُلاً حميدِ المَطْلعِ

    I excelled in honor over honored garments

    So I became a sphere for a splendid ever-rising sun

  3. زُرَّتْ على طود الأناة وضُمنت

    بحر النَّدى وحوت شراس الأدرع

    I was adorned on the hill of patience and guaranteed

    The sea of dew and contained the fiercest armors

  4. حسد اللباسُ العبقري مقامها

    من ماجدٍ في نُسكهِ مُتورِّعِ

    The honored clothes envied my position

    From a glorious one in his devotion, restrained

  5. نضرِ النعيم يكاد ساحبُ ذيلهِ

    يخضرُّ منه ثَرى الجديب المُدقعِ

    The prosperity of bliss, its train's edge

    Almost greens the soil of the rugged plain

  6. يختال في شرفين شأو علاهُما

    لبني المناقبِ سامقٌ لم يُفْرعِ

    It prides itself on two noble glories

    For the people of virtues, towering, unmatched

  7. نجْرٌ كمنبلج الصَّباح يزينهُ

    مسعىً كعرف الروضةِ المُتضوعِ

    A stream like the gleam of dawn adorned

    With the fragrance of a blossoming meadow

  8. ما بين إرثٍ لم يكن بمقلَّدٍ

    محضٍ وكسبٍ لم يكن بتضرُّعِ

    Between an inheritance that was unparalleled

    Pure and earning that was without pleading

  9. حِيز الكمالُ لراجحٍ من هاشمٍ

    غَمْرٍ خلائقهُ كريمِ المرْضعِ

    The sphere of perfection belongs to the prominent Hashimite

    Whose nature is generous like a suckling infant

  10. ليمين دولة هاشمٍ تسطو به

    في الحادثات إذا الظُّبى لم تقطعِ

    By the right hand of Hashimite rule it prevails

    When attackers do not cease

  11. جمُّ البسالةِ والنَّوالِ مبيتهُ

    ما بين حامٍ للطَّريد ومشبعِ

    It spends the night in courage and help

    Between supporter of the exiled and fulfiller of needs

  12. يسْتاف مادحُ فضيضَ لطيمةٍ

    من مدحه لكنها بالمَسْمعِ

    It starts the morning for the needy most listening

    And ends for the living as if it had not heard

  13. عدِمَ المعاب فلو تمحَّل كاشِحٌ

    فيه لناداهُ الكمالُ ألا أربع

    So the blamer, the bundled up, is incoherent

    And the silent scowler, most eloquent

  14. يلقى العواذلَ في الندى وعُفاتهُ

    ما بينَ عاصٍ عند ذاكَ وطيِّعِ

    A tear that criticizes a gift for no reason

    His hands rebuffed it and his aid by donating

  15. يغدو لذي الحاجات أسمع منصتٍ

    ويروحُ للاحي كأنْ لم يسمعِ

    The offenders felt safe with his forbearance

    Fearing his power with frightening security

  16. فاللائمُ المِنْطيقُ أعجمُ قائلٍ

    والمصرْمُ السِكِّيتُ أفصحُ مُسْمعِ

    While you see the farthest of them pleading

    Hopes extended to him near the intercessor

  17. خِرقٌ يعيبُ عطيَّةً بوسيلةٍ

    فندى يديه ونصْره بتبرُّعِ

    Fearing the Lord if his hours struggled

    Between the narrow paths, he would not panic

  18. أنسَ الجُناةُ بحلمهِ فملاهُمُ

    من خوف قدرته بأمنٍ مُفزعِ

    The act of God against his enemies satisfies him

    Without a wavering opinion and scattered vengeance

  19. بينا ترى أقصاهُم مستشفعاً

    بُسطتْ له الآمالُ قرب مُشفَّعِ

    The tongues of fate are sharper against them

    Than spears without the minister's unsheathed sword

  20. خشيان من ذي العرش لو خاضت به

    ساعاتُه بين القنا لم يجْزعِ

    The kind acts of his creation have made him pleased

    Rather than plotting against them on his bed at night

  21. يُغنيه فعلُ اللهِ في أعدائه

    عن رأي مُختَتِلٍ وفتك مُشيَّعِ

    And his clarity of character quenched their cunning

    To God in his solitude and gathering

  22. فأسنةُ المقدور أطعنُ فيهم

    دونَ الوزير من الرماحِ الشُّرَّعِ

    When the winds blow fiercely in the evening

    Between the howling of gusts and shaking

  23. رغبت به ألْطاف محسن خلْقه

    عن أن يبيت لهم مُقضَّ المضجعِ

    A ally it's as if its pieces

    Are knots of quicksand or cavalry of Tubba

  24. وسقاهمُ كيدَ الخطوب صفاؤه

    للهِ في خلواته والمَجْمعِ

    The thunder almost ruptures nearby

    While the scholar dies and the infant wails

  25. وإذا جرت هوجُ الرياح عشيَّةً

    ما بين نكْباءِ الهُبوبِ وزعزع

    So take example, every dark eyed gazelle

    The turmoil in the muddy watering hole

  26. فرَطاً لمُؤتلفٍ كأنَّ رُكامَهُ

    في جمِّهِ عَقِداتُ رملِ الأجرعِ

    Submissive, almost a wild beast grazing in its midst

    And the cub's paw touches it

  27. أو موقراتٌ من ركائبَ بُزَّلٍ

    ترْغو بمعتلجِ المُناخِ الجعجعِ

    Consecutive, collective, as if its clouds

    Were battalions of Caesar or the entourage of Tubba

  28. فاقْتدْنَ منه كل أكحلَ داجنٍ

    هوْلِ التصاخب بالمكان البلْقعِ

    The roar of thunder nearly tears it apart

    When the Lord of Might desires and the weaned infant dies

  29. دانٍ يكاد الوحش يكرعُ وسطه

    وتَمسُّهُ كفُّ الوليدِ المُرضَعِ

    So my worries threw down their belongings

    Pouring like the downpour of heavy rain

  30. مُتَتابعٍ جَمٍّ كأنَّ سَحابهُ

    كبَّاتُ قيصَر أو سرايا تُبَّعِ

    And the continents equaled from its floods

    The high plateau like the lowland

  31. زجلِ الرُّعود يكاد يخْدج عنده

    شاءُ المَلا ويموتُ سخْلُ المُرضِعِ

    The mirage of the lowland became a real sea

    As if for certainty it was not deceived

  32. فَهمي فألقى بالعراءِ بَعاعَهُ

    سحّاً كمندفع الآتيِّ المُتْرعِ

    Brawling, taking the beasts' places forcibly

    Its currents so the monkeys neighbor the jerboas

  33. فتساوتِ الأقطارُ من أمْواهِهِ

    فالقارةُ العلْياءُ مثلُ المَدفعِ

    The minister Zainabi excelled in his generosity

    That dew truly without ostentation

  34. وغدا سراب القاع بحر حقيقةٍ

    فكأنه لتيقُّنٍ لم يخْدَعِ

    His generosity arrives at the utmost frugality

    And his gifts strike the honorable targets

  35. مُتغطمطاً غصب الوحوش مكانها

    تيَّارهُ فالضبُّ جارُ الضِّفْدعِ

    You meet him in two manners never deviating

    From justice or placing something undeserved

  36. فضل الوزيرُ الزينبيُّ بجوده

    ذاكَ النَّدى حقاً بغير توسُّعِ

    If he becomes serious the resolves of his solemnity

    Are not degraded or his nonsense soured in vain

  37. يغذو على حدِّ الخصاصة جودهُ

    وتُصيبُ أنْعمهُ كريمَ المَوقعِ

    The shadow of exile, its helpers weakened

    And the poor became rich and the desperate rescued

  38. تلقاهُ في خُلُقين لم يتنكَّبا

    عدْلاً ولا وضَعاً لغير الموضعِ

    And the settled upon the saddlebags, honor

    Distinguishes them from the despondent souls

  39. إنْ جَدَّ لم يُهجن محاور جِدِّه

    أو أحمضتْ عبثاتُه لم يُقْذعِ

    Disheveled as if above the mounts

    Were ghuls competing with the ostrich

  40. ظلُّ الطَّريد تخاذلتْ أنصارهُ

    وغنى الفقير ونجدةُ المُستفزعِ

    They excelled in emaciation so the farthest zeal

    Quenched them and even if not hurting

  41. ومُسهَّدين على الرحالِ يميزُهم

    شرفُ الرجاء عن النفوس الهُجَّعِ

    They flapped their sleeves upon their necks

    Flapping of prostration in bowed prayers

  42. شُعْثٌ كأن على الركائب منهُمُ

    غولاً تجارى بالنَّعام الأجْدعِ

    Domination by the reins of sleepiness

    Renounced the obedience of rest or a finger

  43. نحلوا على شعب الرحال فأشْبهت

    أعوادها منهم عَريقَ الأضلعِ

    Darkness concealed and the land secret their travel

    Dawn of the place disclosed it, shining

  44. وتفاضلوا شحباً فأبْعدُ هِمَّةٍ

    أوْفاهُمُ وصبَاً وإنْ لم يوجعِ

    Their determination carved their riding animals' souls

    So the slowest was like the fast gallop

  45. خفَقوا بهامِهُمُ على أكْوارها

    خفْقَ السُّجودِ من الصلاةِ الركَّعِ

    They trotted away from the settlements on the lands

    And tread its expanses, wide

  46. وطغتْ بأنجاد النعاسِ أزِمَّةٌ

    فخلعن طاعةَ راحةٍ أو إصْبعِ

    Seeking the barren lands and glory

    Whose passions the song of affliction satisfies

  47. كَتَمَ الدُّجى والقاعُ سرَّ سُراهمُ

    فأباحه صُبحُ المكان المُتْلِعِ

    The minister's generosity called them so they descended

    After defiance, upon fertile thickets

  48. ونحتْ عزائمهم نفوس مطيِّهم

    فأشدها بُطءً فُوَيْقَ المُسرِعِ

    With openhandedness, without stinginess

    And paucity of excuses, without openhandedness

  49. ونزحن بالدهناء عن جَدَد السُّرى

    فوطئن في يربوعها المتقصِّعِ

    A hill, if the clamor of events roused

    A head, and harm in the excitement, burning

  50. يبغون مُشْكي المُجدبات وماجداً

    تُغني رغائبه غناء الهُمَّعِ

    The Imam Al-Fadl learned the virtue of his position

    So the elite's glory made it most honorable

  51. ناداهُمُ كرمُ الوزير فأنْزِلوا

    بعد التَّماحل بالخصيب المُمرعِ

    Fates destined for him a natural disposition

    By which thoughts became inclined to the terrifying

  52. بموسِّع المعروف غيرِ مُضَيِّقٍ

    ومُضيق الأعْذار غير مُوسِّعِ

    He excelled with what he originated, a sharpened sword

    And without its scabbard, the sword would not cut

  53. طودٌ إذا ضوضاء خطبٍ أجلبتْ

    رأسٍ وضرٌ في الهياج سرعرعِ

    So its Originator endowed him with a gleaming blade

    Striking splits in the adversary, harvested

  54. خبرَ الإمامُ الفضلُ فضل مقامه

    فأحلَّه شرف العَلاء الأرفعِ

    Lonely in the scabbard but comforted

    By clashes in battle and struggle

  55. سنَّتْ له الأقدارُ شيمْ بنيَّةٍ

    فغدت به الأفكارُ نحو المهيعِ

    Smiling before the strikes and though

    After its fatality, pouring tears

  56. وجلا بما أبْدا فِرِنْدَ مُهنَّدٍ

    والسيفُ لولا قَيْنُهُ لم يقطع

    A lightning added to the clouds of fingers

    And lightning without its clouds does not shine

  57. فحباه منه بصارمٍ ذي روْنقٍ

    ماضي المضارب في الضرائب مِقْصَعِ

    But a stream in the meadow of resolute mountain

    Whose surroundings are fingers' sea, gushing

  58. مُستوحشٍ في الغمدِ لكن أُنسه

    باللِّيتِ من بطل الوغى والأخْدعِ

    The lack of unsheathing, its cover, as if

    Without resolute intention, it was not cast

  59. مُتبسمٌ قبل الضِّرابِ وإنه

    من بعد فتكته غزيرُ الأدمُعِ

    High virtue carried him to the zenith of ascent

    Its milestones apparent upon the lofty stars

  60. بَرْقٌ أضيفَ إلى سحابِ أناملٍ

    والبرق لولا سُحبهُ لم يلمعِ

    In it, if fates tested and gripped him

    Two calamities from havoc and deafness

  61. بل جدولٌ في رعن طوْدِ أْهمٍ

    حوليه بحرُ أناملٍ مُتدفِّعِ

    Spacious repeated invocation, as if the color of its gathering

    A horizon that donned the cloak of departing clouds

  62. عدم النُبُوِّ غِرارهُ فكأنهُ

    من غير حِدَّةِ عزمه لم يُطبعِ

    Citing Ali in courage to the heights

    So exceeding the effort of the outstretched

  63. وعلَتْ به نُعْماهُ صهوةَ سابحٍ

    نهدٍ مراكلُه عَلَنْدى جُرْشُعِ

    And the two noble parents, between harmful

    Feared omens, and beneficial

  64. سامي التَّليل كأنّ أعلى رَوْقِهِ

    يبغي مناطاً بالنجوم الطُّلَّعِ

    To her dark complexion were two sharp teeth so it worried

    The fair lineages, the open refuge

  65. فيه إذا تَبْلو قَراهُ وشدَّهُ

    شَبَهان من ضِرغامةٍ وسمعْمعِ

    She grew so when forced, she contained virtue

    And despair for the fortunate, a brighter hope

  66. رحْبُ اللَّبانِ كأنَّ لونَ إِهابهِ

    شفقٌ تجلَّل قشْع غيمٍ مُقْلِع

    She became firm so her life in her death

    And the glories of lineage after death

  67. يتلو علياً في الوجيفِ إلى العُلى

    فيفوتُ شدَّ السابق المُتوسعِ

    For the next life showed us

    The infidelity of the unbeliever and the wrong perception

  68. وشريفة الأبوينِ بين مُضِرَّةٍ

    تُخشى بوادرها وبين مُنَفِّعِ

    As if she, her bedding, and her jewelry

    For the certain person, O brother of insightful heart

  69. كانت لأسمرها سِناناً فاغْتدَتْ

    للأبيض الأنساب مأوى الشُرَّعِ

    A light upon darkness left behind it

    The remainder of a family's illumination not yet gone

  70. نحمتْ فلما ألجِمَتْ حوت العلى

    واليأسُ للمحظوظِ أكرم مطمعِ

    Oh son of Al-Jahhaf from the clan of Hashim

    The people of dew, the questioned and donating

  71. وثوتْ فكان حياتُها في موتها

    ومفاخر الأشراف بعد المَصْرعِ

    And those who plunge into every hardship

    Startling with the courageous pigeons

  72. فالنشأةُ الأخرى لها أبدتْ لنا

    كُفْرَ الكفور وسوء رأي المُبدعِ

    And those who make their passions like their shields

    On the day of battle, so the covers are masked

  73. وكأنها وبِساطَها وحُلِيَّها

    للمستبين أخي الفؤادِ الأصْمعِ

    Brandishing over the pigeons and fearing

    Their domination, the repulsion of poisoned arrows

  74. نورٌ على غسقٍ تخلَّفَ عندهُ

    باقي شُعاع عشيرةٍ لم يُقلعِ

    From every listening ear, the greeting of its guests

    If its eyelids delayed, they were not hastened

  75. يا ابن الجحاجح من ذؤابة هاشمٍ

    أهلِ النَّدى المسؤول والمُتبرَّعِ

    The soil drowned from the surplus of its eyelids

    Parading in the most fragrant praise

  76. والخائضين غِمارَ كل كريهةٍ

    روْعاء تفْهقُ بالحِمام الأشجعِ

    Whose abundant wealth its richness does not conceal

    During winter for its tattered clothes

  77. والجاعلينَ شغوفهمْ كدروعهم

    يوم النزال فحاسرٌ كمُقنَّعِ

    If the live coal touched the eyelids, you would meet it

    For the guest, between smoothening and cooing

  78. يتغطرفونَ على الحِمامِ ويَتَّقِي

    سطواتهم دُفَعُ السِّمام المُنْقعِ

    My passion for loving you, its yearning honed my elegy

    And the foliage without its fervor would not ignite

  79. من كل مُسمع ناصفاتِ ضيوفه

    إِنْ أبْطأتْ بجفانها لم تُسرعِ

    And it makes me excel in praising you, reminding me

    I am called in the prime of an era and its conclusion

  80. غمر الثَّرى من فاضلاتِ جِفانهِ

    تختالُ في أرجِ الثَّناء الأضْوعِ

    And if I fell short for your excessive generosity, that I

    Without it bear a thought divided

  81. بادي الغِنى لا يستسرُّ ثَراؤُهُ

    عند الشتاء لِشوْله لم يكْسعِ

    The aid spread and I, from it, ceased like wounds

    Opposing the stallion haunches, gushing

  82. إنْ أنْهَد الحي الجِفانَ لَقيتَهُ

    للضيف بين مُسغْسِغٍ ومُدعْدِعِ

    It transcended to the lowly position with an intercessor

    So attract with the paw, my brother of virtues, encourage

  83. شغفي بحبكَ سنَّ فيك بلاغتي

    والوُرْقُ لولا وجدها لم تسْجعِ

    I am not satisfied by its pinnacle in your loyalty

    Without conveying to me the heights, you will not appease

  84. وتدرُّ بي بالمدحِ فيك أعادني

    أُدعى بمفلقِ عصره والمِصْقعِ

  85. ولئن جذِلتُ لفرط جودِكَ أنني

    بسواهُ حاملُ خاطرٍ مُتوزِّعِ

  86. عمَّ النَّوالُ ورحتُ منه كشائمٍ

    صادٍ بأعْقار الحياض مُدفَّعِ

  87. وسما إلى الرُّتب الدنيُّ بشافعٍ

    فاجذب بضبع أخي الفضائل واشجعِ

  88. ما أقنعتني في ولائك غايةٌ

    فبدونِ تبليغي العُلى لا تُقْنِعِ
