1. تحوي القلوبَ له مكاسرُ لُطْفهِ

    ويَهابُ سطوته الخميسُ الجحفلُ

    Hearts contain his gentle ways,

    Yet his might makes the valiant tremble and shake.

  2. فكأنه في حالتيه منَ الرِّضا

    والسُّخط نارُ غَضاً وماءٌ سلْسلُ

    So whether pleased or angered he appears

    Like scorching fire or gushing water.

  3. غمْرُ الرِّداءِ كأنَّ صوب يمينهِ

    والعامُ أغْبرُ عارضٌ مُتهلِّلُ

    The ample cloak covers his right side

    While the year passes, dusty and withering.

  4. تحْوي المَزابرُ من مطالب نفسه

    ما ليس تحْويهِ الرِّماحُ الذُّبَّلُ

    Tombs contain what his soul desires

    More than can spears, no matter how sharp.

  5. فيفُلُّ صفَّ الجيش سطْرُ بلاغةٍ

    ويَدُقُّ مُقْتصدٌ طويلاً يعْسِلُ

    A line of poetry makes army ranks crumble,

    As one who is sparing of words drones on.

  6. تُرْدي الكُماةَ سُطورهُ في طرِسه

    فكأنما في كُلِّ حَرْفٍ مُقْتِلُ

    His lines cast down the distinguished,

    As if each letter fatally struck.

  7. سودٌ لرأي العين لكن لونُها

    في الدَّارعينَ بكل رَوْعٍ أشْكل

    Dark in appearance, yet his color

    Dazzles all who wear armor.

  8. في الساحة البيضاءِ مَشْقٌ رائعٌ

    لكنَّه في الهامِ ضَرْبٌ أرْعَلُ

    In the white plain his gait is elegant,

    Yet in battle his stroke is crushing and firm.

  9. هوْجاءُ عاصفةُ الهُبوب مُحارباً

    وإذا احْتبى يومَ السَّلامِ فيذْبُل

    The storm of his assault wages war,

    Then when peace comes he fades and withers.

  10. إنَّ الوزيرَ الماجدَ ابن مُحمَّدٍ

    والدَّهْر يشهد والمناقب تُسْجِل

    The eminent minister, son of Mohammed,

    Whose glory time records and traits recount,

  11. تاج الملوك مُشار كلِّ فضيلةٍ

    وجلالُ الإسلام الجَوادُ المُفْضِل

    Crown of kings, embodying every virtue,

    Grandeur of Islam, generous and noble.

  12. يبدو الصباحُ الطَّلْق من قسماتِه

    والليلُ ممدودُ الغَياهِبِ ألْيَلُ

    Dawn gleams from his face’s traits

    While night’s shadows stretch out and darken.

  13. ويجيش بحرُ خواطري في مدحه

    فأُجيدُ إذْ بحر الخواطِر جدول

    The sea of my thoughts surges in praising him

    Then flows smoothly when praising the sea of thoughts.

  14. فحمَى حِماهُ وصان طاهر عِرضه

    مما يُدَنِّسُهُ القديم الأولُ

    He protected his pure reputation

    From what would defile, from past or present.
