يا رُبَّ عَطَّارٍ بِسُكَّرِ ثَغْرِهِ
سَكِرَ المُحِبُّ وَلَمْ يَفِقْ مِنْ سُكْرِهِ
O many a perfumer-apothecary, by the sugar of whose mouth
the lover grew drunk and never woke from his intoxication!
عَقَدَ الشَّرابَ لِذَي السَّقام وكَيْفَ مَا
عَقدَ الشَّراب لِجَفْنِهِ مِنْ ثَغْرِهِ
He thickened the draught for the lovesick—and how could he not have
thickened his eyelid’s wine with sugar from his mouth?
