وَافى الحَبيبُ بِطَلْعَةٍ غَرّاءِ
مِنْ فَوْقِ قَامةِ صُعْدَةٍ سَمْراءِ
The beloved came with a radiant countenance,
above a stature like a dusky Ṣaʿdah spear.
وَبِمُقْلَةٍ خَفَقَ الفُؤادُ وَقَدْ أَتَتْ
إنَّ الجُنونَ يكونُ فِي السَّوْداءِ
At his two glances the heart fluttered—and there came:
“Madness indeed resides in black bile.”
