صَفَا بَاطِني حُسْناً كَما رَقَّ ظَاهِري
وَصَاحَبْتُ فِتْياناً مِنَ الشَّرْبِ أَكْيَاسَا
My inward self grew pure in beauty, as my outward form grew refined;
and I kept company with clever youths of the drinking band.
إِذَا نَهَضُوا كُنْتُ الرَّفِيقَ لَهُمْ وَإِنْ
هُمُوا جَلَسُوا أَمْسَيْتُ في الوَسْطِ جَلَّاسا
When they rose, I was their companion; and if
they sat, I became a steadfast sitter in their midst.
