لَوْ كُنْتَ فِينا وَلِهاً مُغرَماً
شُغِلْتَ بِالحُبِّ عَنِ الشَّكْوَى
If you were among us, madly in love,
You would be preoccupied with love, not complaining,
حَتَّى تَرى أَيْسَر ما نَلْتَقِي
أَعْظَمَ مَا تَحْكِى مِنَ البَلْوَى
Until you see the easiest thing we meet
Is the greatest ordeal you speak of.
مَا عَزَّ صَبٌّ قَطُّ في صَبْوَةٍ
إِلَّا إِذَا ذَلَّ لِمَنْ يَهْوَى
No lover has ever persevered through passion
Unless humbled for the one he adores.
