وَلمَّا التَقَيْنَا لِلوَداعِ وَلِلْجَوَى

بِقَلْبِي سُكُونٌ طَالَ مِنْهُ خُفُوقُهُ

When we met to bid farewell and passion's fire,

My heart was filled with peace, its throbbing beat grew still.

لَثمْتُ ثَناياهُ وَقبَّلْتُ فَرْقَهُ

وَقَدْ جَدَّ وَجْدٌ بِالفُؤادِ يَشُوقُهُ

I kissed his cheeks and touched his brow,

Though deep within my heart with longing thrilled.

فَقَدْ رَاقَنِي يَوْمَ الوَداعِ وَراعَنِي

بِحُسْنٍ وحُزْنٍ فرقُهُ وفَرِيقُهُ

The day we parted, such beauty and such pain -

His charm, our parting, each emotion fills my brain.
