Since the sun saw him in Aries,

It has scarcely dared to appear from shyness.

A fruitful branch bearing a moonlike youth

Who shames the branches with his beauty.

The roses of his cheeks that blush from him

Are abashed by the narcissus of his eyes.

    And besides that his smile

    Combines wine and honey.

Who will protect me from his glances

When I am distraught because of him?

    Whenever his swords are unsheathed,

My heart says: my death is near.
