How can I forget your sorrowful love?

You have beauty, and people have hearts.

How often you have picked me, while the lover stays with desire,

Even if he cannot find a beloved.

Comfort was hoped for if it were other than me

And besides you the lover and the beloved.

I wonder at my people of your tall, slender stature,

Harsh yet it is said to be gentle.

And thus is beauty - all in existence

Are its subjects, and it is a stranger among them.

Your black eyes have robbed me of sleep,

And their actions are sweet and pure.

O brother of the gazelle, thus it is good to be robbed

    When seized by the dispossessed.

And o brother of the branch, you have no bareness,

And o brother of the moon, no setting calls you.
