فَرَّقَ بَيْني وَبَيْنَ مُصْطَبَرِي

بِالجَمْعِ بَيْنَ الجُفُونِ والسَّهرِ

He separated me from my companion

By joining eyelids with wakefulness

أَسْمَرَ قَدْ باتَ في مَحَبَّتِهِ

وَجْدي سَميري وذِكْرهُ سَمَرِي

My dark-skinned love has immersed in his love

My passion is my entertainment, his mention my conversation

أَقلُّ ما في جَمالِ طَلْعَتِهِ

أَجَلُّ ما في مَحاسِنِ القَمَرِ

The least of the beauty of his face

Is the best of the moon's perfections

مَنْطِقُهُ في الهَوَى وَناظِرُهُ

أَرَّقَني بِالحِوَارِ والحَوَرِ

His speech in love and his gaze

Have kept me awake with dialogue and discourse

كَمْ قُلْتُ لِلْقَلْبِ عَنْهُ حِينَ رَنا

إِيَّاكَ مِنْ كَاسِرٍ بِمُنْكَسِرِ

How often have I told my heart about him when it rang out
